Manchester United (2002–2004)
Diego Forlán began his professional career in Uruguay with Danubio, where he quickly caught the attention of scouts due to his technical ability and goal-scoring prowess. He made his debut in 1997 and played until 2000, where his performances led to a move to Europe. During his time at Danubio, Forlán scored 12 goals in 19 appearances, laying the foundation for his international success.
Villarreal (2004–2007)
In 2002, Forlán moved to Manchester United, where he played for two seasons. Although he had a rocky start in the Premier League, Forlán’s talent began to shine through. He struggled with injuries and adapting to the English game but showed flashes of brilliance, including scoring a memorable brace against Liverpool. In total, he scored 10 goals in 63 appearances for the club, though his time at United was relatively short.
Atlético Madrid (2007–2011)
Forlán’s career took a major leap forward when he joined Villarreal in 2004. At Villarreal, he became one of Spain’s most feared strikers, scoring consistently and helping the club achieve their best-ever finish in La Liga, finishing second in the 2004-2005 season. Forlán won the Pichichi Trophy as La Liga’s top scorer in 2005-2006, having scored 25 goals that season. Internazionale (2012–2014)
Forlán’s next major chapter came with Atlético Madrid, where he played a crucial role in the club’s success. During his time in Madrid, he won the UEFA Europa League in 2010, scoring in the final. He also helped Atlético win the UEFA Super Cup in the same year. Forlán was the key player in Atlético’s attack, regularly topping the club’s scoring charts. International Career (2002–2014)
In 2012, Forlán moved to Inter Milan, where he spent two seasons. Although his time at Inter was less productive than at previous clubs, Forlán still contributed with key performances. He made 29 appearances and scored 3 goals during his stint in Italy before moving on to play in Brazil and Japan.
